The Story Behind Petunia’s:
Lisa Clark’s love of baking began in her childhood kitchen with her mother, Kathy. Lisa decided to name the business after her mom’s ceramic pig, Petunia, who hung on the wall over the stovetop in her childhood kitchen. When Kathy passed away, baking became a way for Lisa to honor her mother’s memory and find comfort during a challenging time. As Lisa faced her own health issues, including a severe intolerance to gluten and dairy, her passion for creating delicious, inclusive treats only grew.
In 2010, Lisa decided to turn her love of baking into a business, creating Portland’s first exclusively gluten-free and vegan baking business. Starting out in her small home kitchen and selling at local farmers’ markets, Petunia’s quickly became a hit. Lisa’s husband, Jacob, joined her, and together they opened their first brick-and-mortar café in Portland’s West End in 2013.
Now, Petunia’s Pies & Pastries offers a wide range of inventive desserts made from fresh, local ingredients, all while staying true to the mission of creating inclusive sweets that everyone can enjoy. From pies to pastries, Petunia’s treats are designed to satisfy both gluten-free and vegan diets without sacrificing flavor or creativity. It’s a story of passion, resilience, and a love for bringing people together through good food.
